Imperial County UniServ Mission Statement

The mission of the Imperial County Teachers UniServ is to provide support and training to all of our teachers, to make teaching a rewarding career by developing a positive working relationship with school managers by enhancing teacher image through public relations, and to promote memberhip through contests, promotions and agency fee.

 

Public Relations:

 

  1. Promote positive teacher images through local media.
  2. Improve communications to our members and the community through UniServ newsletters, magazine and website.
  3. Discourage unfair attacks on our members by taking immediate acton before problems get out of hand.

 

Membership:

 

  1. Make CTA/NEA/UniServ visible by attending local teacher association meetings.
  2. Communicate regularly with local leaders.
  3. Distribute immediately all important CTA/NEA information.
  4. Conduct annual membership drives. Develop incentive programs/contests to promote membership.
  5. Encourage locals to negotiate agency fee.

 

Training:

 

  1. Promote independence of chapters through training leaders, negotiators, and grievance training.
  2. Conduct annual beginning grievance training.
  3. Provide annual negotiation workshops.
  4. Provide building representative training.
  5. Provide financial support to two small chapters for fall and spring leadership conferences.
  6. Promote CTA bargaining and political action institutes.
  7. Provide School Site Council representative training.
  8. Provide other training when requested.
  9. Provide Workmen's Compensation training.

 

Promote:

 

  1. Effort to establish exclusive representation for one elementary association.
  2. Assistance for a CTA charted association to petition for decertification and achieve exclusive representation status.
  3. Provide help with local negotiation when requested.
  4. Provide assistance with grievances.
  5. Be advocates for chapters in arbitration.
  6. Provide financial support for chapter/member legal assistance.

 

Cooperation:

 

  1. Make personal contact with superintendent.
  2. Foster cooperative atmosphere with school management.
  3. Instill idea of working on problems early at the formative stage instead of the latter more explosive stages.
  4. Encourage new teachers to participate in new teacher workshops.
  5. Develop cooperative training with school districts, i.e. SB 1969 training.
